Games like torchlight 2. Game Torchlight II is the best cartoon "Devil"

Torchlight II this year will definitely be compared with the game it copies... No, sorry, it reminds me in almost everything. Nevertheless, the new RPG from Runic Games is still not Diablo 3, it's just that both of these games are in the same genre niche and came out with a difference of some three months! How they differ from each other and why the second part of Torchlight should not be missed by any fan of the genre, read in this review.

Torchlight 2

Developer: Runic Games Genre: RPG Release date: September 20, 2012 Official website: torchlight2game.com Similar games: Diablo 1, 2, 3, Titan Quest, Torchlight System requirements Torchlight 2: XP, Vista, 7, Processor 2.6 Hz, 1 GB RAM, 256 MB video, 1.5 GB HDD

Tochlight II compared to the first part - the same as Diablo II after the original "Devil" in the late 90s. Developers seem to follow the path exactly Blizzard and do exactly the same thing, only in the form of a cartoon parody. The main difference between these two hack-and-slash RPGs is that Diablo has always been a generally serious, in some places even a gloomy story about the struggle between Good and Evil. While the creation from Runic is more like a cartoon based on a similar story.

Perhaps this was the idea - to make not a clone, but the most convenient to manage and pass, the simplest meat grinder, where you need to press only one key on the mouse in order to overcome huge distances and mow down thousands of monsters on your way. Torchlight II has become even simpler, and thus, today it is the most elementary and at the same time very dynamic RPG with a concentrated cutting of everything that moves.

The essence of the game

It compares favorably with its older brother in that you don’t even try to somehow notice the narrative in it. It’s already strange to take another story about saving the world from some villain in 2012 seriously, and the good thing about this game is that this brain activity is completely unnecessary. Dialogues can be skipped instantly, nothing but stamped phrases and funny jokes are provided in them. Completing tasks will in no way satisfy the thirsty for adventure and noble heroism of the players. They are here solely for the accumulation of experience and mandatory pumping.

The developers, in order to completely turn gamers into lazy "supermen", even provided for the possibility of putting extra clothes in the city with the help of a pet. For the sake of interest in such an assistant, they added a couple more animals, like a wolf and a panther. If you set the game to the maximum difficulty, their help can come in handy in the midst of a battle, because it is possible to turn them into other animals!

Gameplay

But again, this was done as a joke, so that it would be more fun to run through endless locations. Moreover, regardless of the class of the selected hero, the level clearing process looks about the same. Each warrior has both melee and ranged attacks, only the types of skills and weapons used differ. Brass knuckles, which were in Diablo 3 at the monk and are present in Torchlight II at the warrior.

Magic is standard - depending on the selected branch, you can set fire to enemies, freeze, slow down, strike with lightning, and so on. Even poison, although such tricks in the genre have been introduced for a long time. Of course, peeped at Blizzard and a kind of rage bar that temporarily boosts attacks and stats. But all this works and is needed only at a high level of difficulty, on the first two it all comes down to an unstoppable hero who, like a combine, moves through the levels, and even “bosses” cannot stop him.

Advantages and disadvantages

Of course, they are traditionally much stronger than ordinary monsters, they need to be bludgeoned for a long time, not forgetting about bottles with a healing potion at such moments. But in essence, the cleaning process has not changed. By the way, one of the advantages Diablo 3 in the background lies precisely in the absence of bottles, collecting the vital energy of defeated enemies is a very good find. In Game Runic's in this regard, everything is unchanged, well, just like 12 years ago! However, this fact does not detract from the strengths of the game.

This game is a very high quality and fun copy of a hack-and-slash RPG from the early 00s to the late 90s. And it will appeal to everyone who loves this genre, because against the backdrop of newfangled role-playing games with open worlds and tricky plots, such simple meat grinders are almost a rarity. However, the distribution of experience points, for example, is implemented in such a way that the player has to choose between the preferred skill. You can't pump everything to make it work effectively. Either you swing one branch, or everything a little bit, but in the second case it will be an order of magnitude harder to cut.

Peculiarities

It is better to choose the class you like, pump to the maximum in the direction you like, run through the game. And then go through it again in a different way. In this regard, the replayability of Torchlight II good enough. Despite the not particularly outstanding design of locations. AT Diablo 3, for example, there are few locations, but everything is drawn by hand, every corner is thought out. At the offspring Runic Games, of course, everything is much simpler. This is more copy-paste from several scenery familiar to the gamer, like green meadows, dark dungeons, and so on.

Despite this approach, the game will easily take 15-20 hours for a single passage - this is not a standard action game for you for a couple of evenings. The developers, of course, could not build a new masterpiece in two years or replay the first part, say, twice. But the second Torch light has become better in almost everything: it has more space, more monsters, more opportunities for pumping, it has become even more dynamic. And this is just the topic, while gamers are waiting for new TES and for example Divinity Sin.

General impression

Not to mention very dark and cruel Path of Exile which is close to release. If you do not want to spend a lot of time on a single passage, it makes sense to try yourself in a joint game. The co-op seems to soon take over absolutely all the games, and it may come to the point that the developers will stop coming up with new features for a single player. Most likely, the trend of trying to get players to entertain themselves online at the expense of the “crowd” will continue.

But in the case of this, there is nothing wrong with that. After all, the game offers a decent single player campaign and high-quality multiplayer. And any ordinary RPG will envy its scale, if we are not talking about the flagships of the genre. Like Borderlands 2, this September is a great continuation of a good game from two years ago. But by the third coming from such releases, we will be waiting for something new.

Pros Very easy for everyone Bright, fun design Good borrowing Still fun game process Disadvantages Few changes compared to the first part There is a serious spring competitor!

Fact:

In addition to other similarities with Diablo 3, in this game, each class has a scale of special energy, allowing you to carry out cooler and more effective moves!

And a question for the players: Do you think in this moment is Diablo 3 a direct competitor Torchlight 2, or are they just two top-notch games of the genre, separate from each other?

The second part of Torchlight, like the first, plays entirely on the Diablo field, and last time the game was cheaper and smaller, of course, with all the ensuing consequences. This time, the developers have the strength and additional finances to make the game even better.

So, everything has become more: not three classes, but four, not two pets, but eight. Events no longer revolve around the city of Torchlight, your character is sent on a journey through forests, meadows, deserts and swamps, along the way there are several cities where there is everything you need, including wells that have an endless supply of food for your pet and the hope of catching a gold fish.

The cities are full of corners where dozens of chests are hidden, thousands of enemies and passages to the dungeon. Outrageously simple quests force you to run through large locations, similar to labyrinths, through permanent corridors, elevations, nooks and crannies, abandoned buildings and the like.

New levels are taken very quickly, there are only 100 of them, monsters a large number of and variety, the bosses are also enough to please the most demanding player.

Usually the bosses are just really fat, but there are surprisingly interesting ones, like Jin (for example), who disappears in the second before death and returns completely healthy. There is a lot of loot, gold is gushing out in fountains, so you quickly stop filling up your inventory with everyone in a row.

The game, no doubt, is very comfortable and friendly, it has a good role-playing system, both for its genre, and yet it is a clone, secondary in almost everything. The developers lost their sense of style, the first part was cartoony and funny, in the second part, our heroine became more detailed and darker, at the same time more banal and boring.

In all other respects, Torchlight 2 is for those who did not like the changes in Diablo 3.

Let's sum up the review of the game Torchlight 2

  • Casual action game in hack and slash style.
  • Lots of content for such a low price.
  • Four unique classes and many pets.
  • A good, if not perfect, alternative to Diablo 3.

The quality of each game is known in comparison only while participating in it. If we compare Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3, we can see that they belong to the same genre and the same weight category. They saw the light almost simultaneously, which explains their similarity. Not every player is happy with the prospect of wasting their time on what is already familiar, true fans are in an active search for something more significant, which gives the brain work, makes you think and look for extraordinary tricks. They are not interested in mindless games in which terrible mutants do nasty things at every turn and try to kill innocent simpletons.

Imitating the cruel freaks, the flora and fauna of a rare resource refused to live in peace, performing their usual functions, they also decided to protect their space and life with the help of teeth, claws, processes and tentacles. People hid in horror wherever they could, and only one hero decided to save the world from destruction. He longs for dangerous adventures, for which he began to destroy dangerous evil monsters, in the meantime helping everyone who needs it.

In such an environment, the player has no time to consider any small inscriptions, since the plot captures him completely, he is immersed in the process of destroying dangerous characters. He has no time to pay attention to such trifles as a tick in front of the "Not distracting plot" item or to understand the problem that a farmer's cow has.

What else can Diablo 3 offer besides the simple mechanics of blocking the enemy, a couple of classes, a huge amount of gear and various lotions. In comparison, Torchlight 2 also does not require a high level of intelligence. It is similar to Diablo 3 but has some differences. Its gameplay is based on the standard scheme: choosing a class, destroying enemies, raising a level, capturing a large city, receiving a quest, destroying all the counter-transversals again, collecting gear, raising the next level, passing the level and, finally, reading the credits, which is absolutely not necessarily.

Such games easily capture the attention of novice players, as they have simple actions, do not make you think too much, do not tire, but can be thoroughly tied. The new Torchlight 2 has reduced the level of distractions, such as a huge number of bottles of "fire water", heaps of gear, rough enemy interfaces, which often unnerves beginners, distracting them from the main action. A new feature has appeared in Torchlight: the selected character can provide such a service as delivering a couple of bottles of a potion, assisting in a fierce battle, and then leaving, taking all the gear with him, thereby clearing the space for new feats.

Torchlight also wins in stylistic terms, as it has some inconsistencies in features, cartoonish graphics and harsh gloom are opposed in it. The graphics are drawn in light, pastel colors, against which the gloom of the characters is clearly visible, which is of interest to the players. There are also countless interesting and dangerous locations. It can be a mysterious forest, turbulent rivers with dangerous rapids, underground caves with moving plates, dangerous floors, shaky walkways and many other unforeseen traps.

Players of Torchlight are recognized as one of the best team games of recent times, because, despite its simplicity, it does not contain flaws that distract attention from the main process, which causes a feeling of pleasant fatigue, satisfaction and gratitude for a good time. Participants are given a topic to discuss each level and how to overcome it, which is important in the team. Experienced gamers disdain such “little twins”, but for novice players of Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3, it is obvious that they have differences that create lightness and simplicity. And for those who chose them, we can only wish one thing: a pleasant game!

A sequel that is not much different from the original, and therefore from Diablo too. , interesting plot, random generation, funny drawn locations and characters, in a word, everything that brought the success of the first part was carefully preserved and increased by the developers in Torchlight II. And if you liked the original, then you should definitely like the sequel.

10. Dungeon Siege Series

The first part of Dungeon Siege was released in 2002 and was warmly received by Diablo fans, who immediately noted the tangible bias of the gameplay towards their idol, except that the local storyline was more coherent and interesting (but can this be considered a drawback?). Many people still consider Dungeon Siege to be the best Diablo-like game out there.

The next two parts did not differ in originality and variety of mechanics, and therefore did not have such a resounding success as their predecessor, but they earned an honorable place in the top of games similar to Diablo. True, a lot of time has passed since their release, during which many other, more modern and interesting "diablo-like" games have appeared.

9. Sacred 2

Another worthy representative with an open world, a large number of playable classes, hundreds of types of available equipment and unlimited possibilities for leveling the hero.

At the same time, the game has a good plot, and the local atmosphere and game environment somehow subtly resemble another popular series of role-playing games from German developers - Gothic.

If the game seems interesting, you can also try the first part of Sacred, but you should immediately mentally prepare for a very unattractive graphics (the original was released on PC in 2006).

8. Titan Quest

Action/RPG whose setting is heavily borrowed from ancient mythology. Moreover, often the authors gave them their own interpretation, changed beyond recognition, which is why the world of Titan Quest turned out to be very bizarre, successfully combining traditional elements of fantasy and mythological representations of Greece and Mesopotamia.

The huge world, divided into three acts, and the epic plot, which tells about the confrontation of an earthly hero with gods and titans, evokes certain associations with Oblivion. Even the drawing of the local locations and some of the opponents immediately evoke certain images from the beloved RPG. In all other respects, Titan Quest is a typical representative of hack&slash.

Finally, I would like to add that last year the game celebrated its tenth anniversary, in honor of which a special improved edition was released - Titan Quest Anniversary Edition. You can purchase and download it from the link below.

7. Victor Vran

A project from a new generation of "diablo-like" games, most similar to Diablo 3.

Victor Vran does not have the usual character class system, but there is a huge selection of weapons, divided into seven types, and armor, which determine the style of the game, giving the hero a set of unique attacks. There are also many activated abilities called "demon powers" and "fate cards" that provide passive bonuses.

The gameplay of Victor Vran is highly dynamic: the hero can dodge enemy attacks, quickly move around locations and even jump. The latter ability will come in handy not only in combat, but also for finding secrets and even for solving some.

The rest of the game is a standard hack-and-slash with .

6. Grim Dawn

One of the most interesting games like Diablo 3, constantly updated and improved by its creators (Crate Entertainment). Deserves attention due to the stunningly detailed open world in style, an interesting story that tells about the confrontation of a handful of surviving people at once with several sinister opponents, modern, amazing and special effects.

Traditionally for games like Diablo, Grim Dawn has a large selection of weapons, armor and accessories, many different enemies, including bosses and champions. The role-playing system deserves special attention, allowing you to combine any two of the classes presented here into one hybrid. In total, developers claim more than two hundred abilities that can be improved with special items and constellations (a unique passive skill improvement system).

There are also several factions here, improving the reputation with which will open access to useful in-game items. There is even a kind of non-linear quest execution, however, it practically does not affect the gameplay in any way.

For those who find the passage of the story company not enough, Grim Dawn has an arena mode called the Crucible.

5. The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing

Role-playing game, the main character of which is the famous evil spirits hunter. The surroundings of the project are appropriate: gloomy, fog-covered, mountain ranges and dark forests expanses of the fictional Borgovia, where Dr. Helsing will have to fight hordes of various creatures.

Three available classes (mage, warrior and shooter), hundreds of items of equipment, a variety of tasks, an accessible and understandable role-playing system and much more await players in this wonderful RPG.

4. The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing 2 and 3

Two final installments of The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing trilogy, continuing the events of the original and opening up new corners of Borgovia with its frightening secrets and creepy technologies to explore. Even more enemies, more quests, items, alchemy recipes and mini-games like "" are waiting for players here.

The main concept has remained unchanged, so the game can be advised to everyone who liked the adventures in the company of Dr. Helsing and his companion Katarina.

3. Divine Divinity

Those who once spent more than one hour will say that this game does not have as much in common with Diablo as other projects from our list. So it is, however, when the game just came out, it was dubbed a clone of the unforgettable brainchild of Blizzard, before they had time to really figure it out.

This RPG really looks very similar, the maps seem to be almost the same as we have already seen in Diablo. There are plenty of fights with heaps here too. What distinguishes Divine Divinity is the quality of the role-playing component. The developers managed to create and describe a world that you want to explore, come up with a story, the ending of which you want to know how you want to know. Among the undoubted advantages of the game are also colorful characters, subtle humor and a pleasant atmosphere of good quality.

2. Nox

This RPG came out even a little earlier than the legendary second part of Diablo, moreover, among all the clones of the great and terrible Nox, perhaps the most successful one.

The battles here are really interesting - the opponents have some kind of brain, so they can run away if they smell fried, or eat something useful in battle. As for magical abilities, in addition to the usual spells that act once, there are also long-lasting spells - the hero casts either while the player presses the button, or until the mana runs out. Adds realism to what is happening on the screen is that the enemies can hide in some bushes and suddenly jump out of them, and the hero cannot be completely insured against this.

It's also nice that the settlements in Nox are much livelier than in Diablo, so exploring the cities is a separate pleasure.

1. Path of Exile

The game that comes closest to the Diablo series in terms of atmosphere and gameplay quality.

The world of Path of Exile is literally filled to the brim with cruelty and hopelessness. Everywhere black magic, reanimating corpses, ancient dark deities and so on. Perhaps, only for one study of the game environment, this RPG could be sent to the top.

In addition, the game offers as many as seven playable characters to choose from with a deeply developed pumping system. The abilities of each depend on the stone inserted into the equipment, as well as on the tree of more than a thousand (!) Passive skills, activated by the allocation of skill points. This was not even in any of the three parts of Diablo.

In conclusion, I would like to add that with such impressive advantages, Path of Exile is also absolutely free.

Other candidates: Drakensang Online, Hellgate: London, Harbinger, Bastion, Silverfall, Hob, .

About a game like Diablo every gamer knows. This action rpg became the prototype of so many projects, both singles and IMO. Especially, of course, MMOs - the gameplay of almost every second browser is made in the style of Diablo. And almost any Korean RPG also largely copies the gameplay of the Great and Terrible. True, in our TOP-10 there will be mainly single-player games, because Diablo is, first of all, a single-player game, albeit with a good multiplayer component. And Diablo himself will not be on our list, since this game is already the best.

But, before we move on to our TOP 10, let's figure out what are the main features inherent in this type of games. The correct name of the genre, by the way, is hack-and-slash (“hack and slash”, something like this is translated). So, we control one character (there may be assistants, but the main one is one), an overview in an isometric projection (top view), the emphasis is on killing monsters and long walks in various areas that are inhabited by these same monsters. Completion of quests, dialogues and the so-called role-playing are usually secondary here. That's all the main characteristics of this group of games. Well, now that we have figured out what criteria are used to evaluate “ Diablo-like Let's move on to our list.

10. Nox

One of the funniest toys similar to Diablo. An old project, which, nevertheless, is worth checking out for every fan of the genre. Good humor, three classes, each with its own features, interesting quests and plot. The main villain of the game (a very pretty and powerful sorceress) makes a mistake when casting a spell, and inadvertently calls into her world ... our character. From our own earthly world. And in order to return back, we need to defeat her. In general, a fun and interesting adventure that is recommended for everyone who is not afraid of old games.

9. Titan Quest

A game with an open world made in the spirit of various ancient myths. Here are the legends of Ancient Greece (where without them), and various elements from Egyptian mythology, and legends of the East (Ancient Sumerians, China and many others). There is no specific character class here - we just develop our hero by pumping him one or another skill line. Make yourself the one you see fit - a magician, warrior, thief, archer, or even a station wagon that combines several classes. The game has many advantages - an open world, a great atmosphere of ancient myths and a good storyline. By the way, the news for mobile device owners is that the game will be released on iOS and Android in the very near future.

8. Harbinger (Harbinger)

The project is unusual due to its world. The point is that this sci-fi(science fiction) - the action of the game takes place on a huge spaceship, which has been flying through space for many years (although, judging by the game, it’s probably centuries already). This ship is called a harbinger. We have three classes to choose from, each with its own special abilities, equipment and playstyle. The gameplay here is very familiar - local freaks, of course, are not fantasy (as in most games a la Diablo), but they are shredded in the same way. And yes, the story is good. All in all, the game is worth checking out.

7. Revenant

Unusual and very dark game. Our protagonist is a resurrected warrior of antiquity, who was called in order to solve some ... problems of the local ruler. Usual problems - another Great Evil wakes up and the like in the same vein. But, as the story progresses, it turns out that not everything is so simple, and the main character, who lost his memory after the resurrection, begins to remember that he was once directly connected with this evil. Once - this is in the past life, centuries before the events of the game. The gameplay is distinguished by its unusual and extremely interesting system fencing, and the plot is ambiguous and is revealed to the end only at the very end of the game.

6.Torchlight

Another project like "Diablo, but only with humor." Funny drawing, humorous plot and in general, a lot of so-called banter. The style of the game is not purely fantasy - there is also everyone's favorite steampunk. There are three classes here, and each has its own methods of exterminating opponents. The quality of the project is very high, because it was made by the same people who participated in the creation of the first two parts of Diablo. By the way, there is also a second part of the game, which is no worse than the first. We also recommend it.

5. The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing

In this game we will play as a descendant of the famous evil spirits hunter. Our character is happy to be engaged in family craft, very successfully exterminating various otherworldly horrors throughout Europe. His companion is the ghostly Lady Katarina, who really brings the game to life. Even though sometimes you regret that she is already dead - you want to kill her again for some of her stinging comments. In general, the plot in the game is made in the spirit of classic Gothic and, frankly, is simply gorgeous. The project, of course, is not without flaws, but it is definitely worth playing. By the way, the developers promised a trilogy, so we are waiting for the sequel.

4. Sacred

Not a bad game with an open world, some very interesting characters and not the worst story. Each hero has his own story, his own equipment and skills, as well as his own, unique gameplay. For example, a vampire can play either as a classic melee warrior, or as a ... vampire. That is, something like a dark magician and with his own special abilities. But the elf is a typical archer, whose main task is to keep enemies away from her. The game also has the second and third parts, but the first can be called the most successful.

3Dungeon Siege

Yes, the same Siege Dungeon. One of the first games to truly develop the concept of Diablo. Bleeding system in style TES(we develop what we use), a lot of interesting partners (you can play alone, but it’s much more interesting to assemble a squad) and a beautiful, open world. The basis of the gameplay remains, as always, the extermination of various monsters. It is worth talking about the beauty of the world separately - at the time of release Dungeon Siege impressed with its graphics, and even now you can appreciate the amount of work done by designers and programmers. By the way, the game also has the second and third parts, which are also very good. Do not miss.

2. Divine Divinity

The first game in the famous series Divinity, the ancestor of everyone's favorite Divinity: Original Sin. At first glance, this is the same Diablo. Familiar gameplay with chopping monsters, familiar fantasy world, three character classes. But, it is worth taking a closer look, and you understand that not everything is so simple. Many quests are made in the style of the best classic RPGs, where the ability to find non-standard solutions and convince other characters is important, there are “moral choices” loved by everyone (many years before Mass Effect and other modern RPGs), and implemented at the highest level. Each class can be upgraded the way you want (that is, you can choose your own skills). And yes, the storyline is amazing. In general, this is the very classic that you need to know.

1. Path of Exile

And the first on our list will be this wonderful MMO. A very unusual project that continues to develop, and which is very popular around the world. A worthwhile storyline, very nice graphics, and a really original skill tree and exchange system. The matter of passive skills in the game is several hundred (!), And there are not one or two dozen options for pumping for each of the classes. And active, combat skills are a kind of stones that are knocked out of opponents or bought from merchants. And trade here takes place exclusively on the principle of barter. Namely, there is no separate currency here (like gold coins or something like that) - we are items for ... other items. Basically, local trade is something like the Horadric Cube in Diablo 2. If you are already interested in the game Path of Exile, then know that this is not all of its advantages. And it's completely free, so download it now.
