Easy sewing for beginners. Patchwork

Patchwork is the English name for patchwork, which was popular in the old days with our grandmothers. Previously, the pieces were sewn simply in a chaotic manner, gradually they began to come up with beautiful patterns and with the help of which beginner needlewomen can easily understand the basic sewing techniques. Today, in our review, the editors of the site will share their experience, tell you how to select fabric, and photo tutorials will help bring any ideas to life: from jewelry to clothing.

In the technique of sewing from patches and scraps of different fabrics, you can create real beauty: quilted, potholders, the main thing is to choose the right fabric and draw up a diagram of the future product.

Fabric choice

In patchwork, the main role is played by the material, it is important to choose beautiful combinations that will be. A huge variety of shades and textures make the choice quite difficult. The following must be taken into account here:

  • for the front side, you should purchase matter intended for patchwork. She has undergone heat treatment, will not sit down and will not shed in the finished product;
  • for the wrong side, simple and inexpensive fabrics, such as poplin or calico, are suitable.

Sewing from patchwork should begin, first of all, with your stocks: for patchwork, both new fabrics and used ones, but in good condition, are suitable. For needlework, almost any matter is suitable:

  • cotton;
  • gabardine;
  • tweed.

If the product will be subjected to stress, you can additionally put it on the lining fabric and synthetic winterizer.

Choosing a template, the basics of drawing up patterns and patchwork patterns

The second important step in patchwork creativity is the choice of a pattern; at first, it is better for beginner craftswomen to look for ready-made patterns on the Internet with detailed descriptions. To cut blanks of the same shape, you can use special layouts. We must not forget about the allowances for the seams, cut the pieces should be with a margin.

Important! Dense matter is not cut out with a margin, since excess fabric will bulge ugly. The blanks are butt-sewn with a lining, and the pieces are stitched together in a zigzag.

Patchwork Sewing Techniques

There are several basic techniques for connecting patchwork blanks.

Connection technique Description

Traditional

Blanks of a certain shape are sewn onto a piece of fabric. This technique is often used for blankets and potholders.

A certain pattern or pattern is laid out from square-shaped blanks.

Here, rectangles are taken as the basis, which can be stitched diagonally, vertically or horizontally.

For this technique, it is better for beginner craftswomen to use isosceles or equilateral figures.

The blanks are laid out on a cut in a chaotic manner, organza is laid on top, then again a layer of shreds and organza. All layers must be ironed and sewn with a line.

It is an abstract drawing without a definite form.

A Japanese technique that imitates darning with colored pieces of cloth and stitching.

Rectangular patches are sewn onto the prepared base.

Patchwork patchwork technique for beginners: basic techniques for performing different patterns

Let's start studying the patchwork technique with the simplest schemes with a step-by-step photo description of all actions. Over time, craftswomen will be able to move on to more complex patterns.

Do-it-yourself patchwork for beginners: the principle of sewing the “Mill” pattern

We offer to sew a blanket according to the "Mill" pattern using the technique of magic triangles.

Step-by-step photo description of the patchwork technique for beginners

The blanket will consist of several blocks, for one block we need 2 squares of colored and plain fabric.

Illustration Action Description

Lay the colored and plain squares face inward, make markings diagonally.
Sew the fabric at a distance of 6 mm on each side of the diagonal.

Cut the stitched square diagonally. Sew and cut the second two squares in the same way.
seams, open the squares and iron again.

Cut off the protruding parts and prepare the block for stitching.
Sew together squares 1.2 and 3.4 vertically

Unfold the squares and iron, directing the seams in opposite directions.
Sew together two blanks, the seams should be in the middle and directed in different directions. Then iron.

A strip can be sewn between the blocks, thus connecting all the parts into one.

Patchwork master class for beginners: we sew a pattern according to the “Rose” pattern

According to this pattern, you can sew not only a rose flower, but also use the pattern for sewing any thing. The work is quite painstaking, but the result will exceed all expectations.

For the scheme, it is necessary to select matter, the edges of which do not crumble. Be sure to take into account seam allowances of at least 0.5 cm.

The order of work is the following.

  1. Sewing starts from the middle of the pattern, gradually moving in a spiral.
  2. Scraps need to be taken in pairs, sewn together, then sewn to a common workpiece. The result should be a square.
  3. After you sew a few squares, you can proceed to the general assembly. For this, additional bands are used.

Step-by-step photo descriptions of sewing patchwork quilts with your own hands in the style of patchwork

Using various patchwork stitching techniques, it will be easy for beginners to make a patchwork blanket or bedspread with their own hands, both for an adult. To add volume between the front and lining fabric, a synthetic winterizer or other filler is additionally used.

Model 1 - a master class on patchwork pattern "Chaotic squares"

To make a beautiful bright blanket for a child 3-12 years old, 110 × 140 cm in size, we need:

  • fabric of different colors;
  • lining fabric;
  • oblique inlay 4.5 cm wide;
  • sintepon.

The order of work is the following.

Illustration Action Description

Cut into 208 squares 10×10 cm

Sew squares of different colors facing inward in pairs, indent from the edge - 0.75 cm.

Open the squares and sew another row of shreds to the right edge. Block of squares - 13 × 16 patches.

On the wrong side, all seams in one direction.

Sew all squares vertically.

Iron all seams from the inside in one direction.

Lay the lining fabric, a synthetic winterizer on it and a blank of squares on top. Layers should be larger than the main workpiece. Secure all seams vertically with pins.

Sew the pinned vertical seams exactly in the middle, then sew them in a perpendicular direction.

Sew the workpiece along the edge with an indent of 0.5 cm, after which you can cut off the protruding parts of the lining and synthetic winterizer.

Sew on the bias tape from the wrong side strictly along the side seam, having previously wrapped the edge by 1 cm. You need to interrupt sewing 0.5 cm before the edge.

Fold the inlay in a square at the beginning of the edge and sew. Turn the workpiece over, tuck the inlay 0.5 cm and sew along the front side.

By this principle, you can sew a blanket of any size.

In more detail, a master class for beginners on how to sew a patchwork blanket can be viewed on the video:

Model 2 - Magic circles blanket

For such a blanket, you will need blanks in the form of squares with a side of at least 21 cm, inside you need to cut a semicircle. In such a scheme, it is important to choose beautiful combinations of fabrics that should not be repeated in one block.

After stitching and ironing the squares for the front side of the blanket, you need to put the blank on the synthetic winterizer and the back fabric, baste, quilt along the seams and along the edge of the product.

Model 3 - double-sided blanket

To sew a double-sided patchwork quilt with your own hands, beginners need to prepare the fabric and cut out squares of at least 23 cm in size for a finished product of 1.5 × 2.3 m according to the pattern. In addition, you will need a synthetic winterizer as a heater.

The order of work is the following.

  1. Lay two squares right side in and sew, remembering about 1.5 cm seam allowances.
  2. Sew 7 squares in the same way. Such blanks will need 10 pieces.
  3. Iron all the pieces from the wrong side.
  4. Sew all the strips together, iron everything.
  5. Sew the wrong side in the same way, instead of it you can use a lining fabric of a suitable color.
  6. Put one blank on the table with the wrong side up, on it - a layer of padding polyester, then another blank face up.
  7. Fix the blanks with pins and sew exactly along the seams, first vertically, then horizontally.
  8. Sew on bias tape.

Summer dresses with a V-neck and a wrap have their own unique silhouette - delicate, flowing, flying. In such a dress it is not hot even in the strongest summer heat, and made floor-length, such a dress is ideal even for the most solemn occasions! In this lesson, we will look at one of the options for modeling a dress pattern with a V-neck. The dress is made of thin crepe in a delicate gray-blue hue. Such a model seems quite open, however, thin inlays securely fix the bodice and will not allow showing anything superfluous.

The dress that we want to bring to your attention in this lesson is a real hymn to summer! Off-the-shoulder model with an elastic band, made of soft sky-colored poplin. Two wide frills - one on the bodice and the second on the bottom of the skirt give the product an unimaginable airiness. Pay attention to the thinnest paths made in the cutwork technique - they add that drop of sophistication that turns this dress into something special!

Patterns of simple but original dresses are liked by craftswomen, first of all, by non-standard modeling and ease of tailoring. It is to such models that the popular balloon dress can be attributed, the pattern of which we offer you in this lesson. There are several different styles of such a dress, however, they all have a similar feature - the lower part of the dress has a large volume in the hips and narrows down, resembling a balloon in shape. This, in fact, the dress owes its name.

Electronic pattern of sheath dress

Sizes: 42-62

File Format: PDF

Sewing difficulty level: easy

The model fits most figures. The silhouette is adjacent.

The pattern of the sheath dress is made on the basis with reliefs.

In addition to sewing dresses and women's jackets, this pattern can be used for modeling. The set of patterns (Fig. 1), in addition to the details of the back and the details of the shelf, includes two sleeves “narrow” and “wide” (with assembly along the entire rim for sleeves made of chiffon and cambric).

For sewing a sheath dress, any fabric of the dress assortment is suitable.

Consumption depends on the size of the length of the product, the length of the sleeve. Therefore, it is recommended that before buying a fabric, make all the patterns of the length you need and perform a preliminary layout.

Sewing and cutting of a sheath dress

With all the variety of such dresses, they are cut almost the same. Small and medium sizes, as they say, "pass" in one width of the fabric (Fig. 2). For large ones, the consumption increases to almost two lengths of the product (Fig. 3).

Seam allowances. Along the reliefs, side and shoulder seams, along the front and back seams of the sleeve - 1 cm. The bottom of the dress and the bottom of the sleeve - 2.5 - 3 cm.

If you choose the option with a “wide” sleeve (photo 1), you will need a very thin fabric for this sleeve (chiffon or cambric), while the dress should be sewn from a denser fabric.

Please note that the fit of the sleeve of this model should be carried out around the entire sleeve of the sleeve - both above the arm and under the arm.

Of course, the distribution of landing should not be uniform. Gather the top edge more than the bottom.

It is better to correct the shape of the neck at the fitting (photo 2).

If you decide to sew a set with a jacket (photo 3), to cut the latter, choose a pattern a couple of sizes larger than the dress pattern.

The cutting of the jacket differs slightly from the cutting of the dress (Fig. 4).

Firstly, the length of the patterns, and secondly, the need to cut out a one-piece selection.

This is easy to do: lay the shelf 5 - 6 cm from the fold of the fabric, as shown in fig. 4 or cut like a one-piece waistcoat.

Sewing sheath dresses is not difficult. This is a good model to sew yourself.

You can read a detailed description of tailoring in the article "How to cut and sew a "little black dress"".

And in conclusion, consider the changes that young extravagant girls can make to women's patterns.

Many of them do not like dresses in which the skirt is straight. Narrowing a skirt is quite simple, but for this you need to know in advance how long your product will be.

We make the narrowing of the dress pattern down from the level of the hips (Fig. 5) along the side sections. For other cuts, it is IMPOSSIBLE to NOW!

The optimal value is 2 cm on each side. In addition, the side seam should be lengthened, otherwise the bottom line will not be straight.

It is not recommended to make a slot in dresses or skirts narrowed to the bottom, as it immediately “breaks” the silhouette and deforms rather quickly.

To needlework began to give pleasure, you have to work hardBeginning is always difficult. Patchwork also needs to be learned. Not everything turns out right away: the hands do not obey, the eye fails. For this, there is the experience of the masters. Having mastered video tutorials, photo materials and a master class with their tips and secrets, you can safely implement any idea - from making a simple oven mitt to a new sofa upholstery.

Patchwork for beginners

Patchwork is very popular today - needlework, in which a whole product with a conceived pattern is assembled from colored fabric rags according to the mosaic principle. The result of such a fascinating process can be a recognizable image of some objects, geometric ornaments or fancy patterns. Patchwork ideas can be taken from photo and video tutorials, as well as master classes.

Initially, the patchwork was sewn together due to material savings, and the patchwork had very specific tasks. Now the technique of patchwork is the desire to create beauty, enjoying this magical action. Quilted bedspreads, decorative panels, blankets and pillows, potholders for the kitchen, updated furniture, clothes are pleasing to the eye.

To understand the basics of the patchwork technique, you need to get acquainted with its main types in master classes and videos.

Basicspatchworksewing:

  1. AccuracyAndaccuracy. The patchwork technique is not a complicated technology, but it is not always easy to realize an idea, as in MK. The guarantee of success in patchwork is accuracy and accuracy. Patterns for potholders or blankets must be accurate and very neatly sewn. The fabric requires pre-treatment (decatation). It must be soaked or washed, dried and ironed, sorted by color.
  2. JobWithiron. The patchwork iron is an important tool. In the course of work, the seams must be ironed; when decating fabrics, they must also be ironed. Ready-made pot holders or bags are steamed from the front side and always in one direction. The seams also need to be ironed in one direction. Then they will not crumble and will be durable. The seam allowances are smoothed from the inside so that there are no marks on the front side. In complex blocks where seams of different directions occur, the allowances of each next row are ironed in a different direction. On the front side iron at the intersection of the seams. If the strips are too long, they should be placed on the ironing board not horizontally, but vertically - they will not wrinkle and stretch. Too dense fabric is moistened and steamed. The fabric is ironed along the share in the temperature regime corresponding to the type of fabric.
  3. secretssewing. Inaccurately sewn fragments of a future potholder or napkin, uneven seams, even a slight mismatch in size will destroy patchwork for beginners. Therefore, the flaps must be sewn very accurately. Beginning craftswomen will be helped by templates in the form of a frame, which are made on millimeter paper with a seam line printed on the fabric. Before starting a grand project, it is recommended to sew a block sample. It will help to check the accuracy of cutting, adjust the operation of the sewing machine. It is easy to see all the errors on the sample - this will save both time and effort.

On the finished canvas, it is much more difficult to correct errors.

In general, the patchwork technique should be taken seriously, considering all color combinations even for potholders - after all, they, like sloppy work, can ruin a thing and discourage you from mastering such fascinating needlework.

How to start patchwork

To begin with, they collect all the scraps of fabrics, sort them by texture and color, and begin to create a scheme. You can also do the opposite: come up with a pattern or find it on MK, photos and videos, and then cut blanks from purchased fabrics.

Of the abundance of fabric scraps stored at home, it is important to choose the right combination for the future product.

The second step is to create a sketch of the oven mitt, pillow or napkin. It is better for beginner needlewomen to use ready-made patterns from magazines or MK from the Internet.

The process of connecting patches into a whole canvas:

  • Stitching the details of the tack or bedspread;
  • Connecting blocks into one;
  • Sewing on the lining

In addition to sewing, there is also a knitted patchwork, where the patches are connected to each other with a hook and a contrasting thread.

In addition to threads, fabrics and machines, the patchwork technique uses:

  • Roller cutter or scissors;
  • Pins, needles;
  • Sewing machine;
  • Pencil or chalk;
  • Cardboard or soft plastic;
  • Knitting hook.

In needlework stores you can find patchwork kits - with pattern patterns, MK.

Patchwork templates can be found in the kit or you can make your own.

Quilting kit includes fabrics, necessary tools, templates and block diagrams

Patchwork: schemes, patterns

You can make patterns and templates yourself or take ready-made patterns from the Internet, books or magazines. Templates are cut along the contour of the part, taking into account the seam allowances. The material for manufacturing can be cardboard, thick paper, plastic. For accuracy, you can stick graph paper on cardboard, and then cut out the figure of the intended size. In the manufacture of curved blanks on the outer contour of the template, it is necessary to make longitudinal cuts-notches - it is convenient to mark the seams on them when connecting the flaps.

Photo and video tutorials on patchwork offer patterns, patterns and MK

Cut rules

The most convenient templates are frames. The inner part must correspond to the dimensions of the finished fragment, the outer part takes into account seam allowances. The width of such a frame is the size of the allowances. When making a pattern, the frame must be circled twice, and cut only along the outer contour. The inner outline will show the seam line. The pattern is transferred to the fabric with chalk or soap, any pen leaves marks on the front side. Cutting is done only along the shared thread, so that later sewn parts do not stretch or warp. Cut out the flaps with ordinary scissors or a special cutter. The roller cutter makes the process much easier by cutting long strips that are easy to cut into smaller pieces. You can not do without a cutter when the templates are curved.

Pattern selection

INtechniquepatchworkexists 3 kindproducts:

  • canvas, stitchedfromshreds, where the parts gather seam to seam. The shape of the flaps can be regular, geometric (traditional sewing) or arbitrary (crazy patchwork). Watch video tutorials.
  • Quiltedproducts(quilting) are sewn from a whole fabric, the pattern on which is created with the help of a stitch.
  • Application- pieces of other fabrics are beautifully applied to the base, sewn and quilted.

"Frame" - the easiest and most convenient template for cutting

Patchwork technique for beginners

The pattern can be created on the basis of one repeating figure, for which paper templates are cut out for each part and a patch is tacked to it. The seam allowance is wrapped over the edge and basted again. This is a traditional English technique.

The technique with blocks is more modern: pieces of triangular or square fabric are sewn into blocks, making up a geometric pattern. A simple block can be made up of a small number of large parts. This kind of work takes less time and effort. It is often used by video lessons and MK.

The technique of patchwork from stripes is also known. It differs from the previous version in that the fragments are collected into strips, then they are combined into a canvas. Block technique is convenient in that the flaps are sewn immediately on a typewriter.

In a crazy patchwork, patches are sewn on as an applique: individual patches of arbitrary shape are beautifully placed on the canvas and sewn on. Potholders, bedspreads, covers come out two-layer.

A special comfort in the interior is created by handmade items, in particular, beautiful and comfortable pillows. Let's try to sew a decorative pillowcase with a three-dimensional applique "Rose" according to MK. For work, you can take any patches, the main thing is that they should be successfully combined in color. Do not forget to prepare the fabric - wash, iron.

Master class "Pillow with application"

step by stepinstruction.

  1. It is convenient to start with the preparation of squares. Their number and size determine the size of the pillow.
  2. Then cut out a circle from the fabric. Put a piece of fabric and some filler for volume (cotton wool, synthetic winterizer) in the middle. Fasten in a circle with a machine seam. The middle is done.
  3. Fold the squares from the flaps diagonally, as in the photo, sew around the middle blank in a circle - 3-5 pieces.
  4. For the next round, you need to prepare large squares of the corresponding color. Continue to the end of the intended flower size.
  5. Sewn petals must be cut in a circle.
  6. Ready-made roses are beautifully distributed on a pillowcase and fixed on the product with a zig-zag seam, a wide dense line. The rose has the appearance of a three-dimensional application.
  7. If desired, the bouquet can be supplemented with leaves cut from patches of a suitable color. Look at the photo of the master class step by step. The blanket in MK is made using the “crazy patchwork” technique (you can watch video tutorials), and it consists of 30x30 cm squares. For a single blanket, you need 24 blanks, for a double blanket - 36. Let's say the pattern will be made up of 4 types of fabric.

The complexity of the ornament depends on the experience and skills of patchwork

Master class "Patchwork for beginners - a blanket"

Tools and materials:

  • 1 m of fabric of each color (width 220 cm) - 6 or 9 squares 45x45 cm;
  • For lining - 170 cm or 220 cm (the stock from below leaves after the blanket is quilted);
  • Sintepon of similar sizes;

A blanket or bedspread can be sewn from simple squares or complex blanks.

Step by step instruction MK:

  1. Cut into squares and arrange in a stack, alternating colors.
  2. Cut this layer cake diagonally or arbitrarily. It is convenient to cut with a roller knife.
  3. Take the part from above and shift it down under a stack of the same elements. In the cut stack, there will be 1 part of the 1st color on top and 1-a - the 2nd.
  4. Sew on the machine all the squares along the cut line.
  5. On an ironing board, gently iron the seams to one side or flat iron.
  6. Fold the blanks in a neat pile in the same order - on top are the squares of the 1st and 2nd tones.
  7. Using a ruler and a knife, cut the entire stack again along any line (the first seam can be crossed).
  8. Place one of the top pieces down under the stack. Sew and smooth, not forgetting to fold in order - now it's better to combine at the seams.
  9. The operation is repeated to the last detail. The optimal number of seams is 6-10 horizontally and vertically.
  10. After ironing the seams, you need to trim the squares to get a figure with a side of 32 cm.
  11. You can assemble a blanket in different ways: first assemble the front part, then quilt with padding polyester and lining. It's hard on a machine. Or quilt each square separately, cutting the synthetic winterizer and lining.
  12. Gather the quilted squares together, trim and close the seams with narrow tape or strips of fabric. It is convenient to assemble according to the scheme: ribbons of 4-6 squares, then sew the stripes.
  13. Along the edge, the blanket must also be sheathed with a piping made of plain fabric or pieces of patches, as in the photo of MK.

Congratulations on the update!

Quilt technique (video)

Having learned the basic concepts of such a type of needlework as patchwork and having mastered the simplest skills of composing “puzzles” from fabric into a single whole, you can create creative household items or interior decor from different patches.

Patchwork: beautiful and easy for beginners (photo)

Patchwork is a sewing technique that creates things from different pieces and materials. For beginners, it may seem complicated, but step-by-step instructions, photos and diagrams will make learning much easier.

The key to any beautiful thing is its neatness and geometric accuracy. Just like with mosaics, patchwork requires perfectly calculated and cut pieces that, when combined, will not be incompatible.

To do this, you need to follow some cutting rules:

  • In order to avoid deformation, change in size and color, after washing the manufactured item, the newly purchased fabric must be washed and then steamed with an iron.
  • Before working with previously used pieces of fabric, they should be soaked with a solution of water and starch (it is better to do this with a spray gun), and then ironed.
  • To line the fabric into patches of the desired shape, you should use soap or special chalk, in extreme cases, a pencil with a soft lead. But in no case should you draw on the fabric with a pen: the ink, absorbed into the fabric, remains there forever.
  • Fabrics should be cut in the direction of the shared thread, otherwise the parts may be deformed when sewing together. In the case of working with a new fabric, you need to focus on the edge.

To cut the fabric into elements, you must first make 2 templates of the desired shape from thick paper or cardboard: one with indents, the second without them. Each of the templates is alternately attached to the matter and circled using the above tools.

What is the best fabric for the job?

For patchwork, any fabric that is close to the soul of a novice seamstress can be suitable. However, each fabric has its own characteristics and characteristics, which can subsequently affect the convenience of work, and, consequently, the quality of the finished product.

Cotton fabric is considered the most popular, as its characteristics allow even beginner needlewomen to work with it:

  • Optimal density and weight;
  • does not shrink when washed;
  • when cut, it does not crumble and does not spread;
  • does not change color;
  • easy to sew;
  • immediately takes the desired shape, which retains for a long time.

Due to its quality, linen also occupies the top positions in the choice of material:

  • Durability, wear resistance;
  • hypoallergenic;
  • high characteristics of thermal conductivity and air permeability;
  • practically does not electrify, even with strong friction.

Patchwork silk looks beautiful and expensive, but it is difficult for beginners.

It is very difficult to work with the material: it is very electrified, any mistake made when stitching or cutting will immediately catch your eye. In addition, it is not suitable for creating things for the home (blankets, pillow upholstery, etc.), as it wears out very quickly and becomes unusable, losing all its gloss and beauty.

Today, warm, homely looks are in trend, due to which the popularity of wool products has increased. In addition to the aesthetic function, this material also has a practical one. It is easier to work with than with silk, but the hand will first have to be stuffed a little, as stitching often causes problems.

Among the advantages of this matter are:

  • Keeps a neat appearance, as it does not have the ability to wrinkle;
  • resistant to various pollution;
  • absorbs excess dampness in the house, which does not affect the appearance of the material;
  • elastic;
  • can last for many years.

One of the advantages of patchwork is that you do not need to choose only one type of fabric, they can be combined with each other, creating original things.

This sewing technique has a long, rich history, during which patchwork has acquired new forms and varieties, so that every beginner can choose their favorite sewing patterns using step-by-step instructions and photos.

Traditional version of the patchwork technique

Things in traditional patchwork are made using pieces of matter in the form of simple geometric shapes, with regular silhouettes. In this embodiment, you can make things both small (pillowcase, potholder) and large (plaid, rug).

A distinctive feature of the classic patchwork is that the front side consists of flaps., while the lining may consist of a single piece of material.

Japanese patchwork

In this version of patchwork sewing, the traditions of the East and West have united. For the most part, things of large sizes are performed in this technique. Preference is given to silk fabrics, mostly expensive and of high quality. But for hand stuffing, beginners can practice on a cheaper variety of silk.

The basis of the elements, as in the traditional version, are geometric shapes:

  • squares,
  • rectangles,
  • diamonds.

Knitted patchwork

This type of patchwork is in many ways similar to the traditional one, however, here the elements are not sewn together, but connected with a hook.
Moreover, different materials can be used. In this type of patchwork sewing, such products as women's bags and bedspreads are most common.

crazy patchwork

Unlike other types of patchwork, here the elements do not have clear geometrically regular shapes, rather the opposite - hence the name.
The threads at the stitching points are masked by various means: lace, ribbons, embroidery, etc. In addition, the use of beads, beads, buttons, and various pendants is common.

Quilt

In this technique, using a machine stitch that reproduces various patterns, 2 canvases are sewn together, between which a soft lining is placed, for example, from synthetic winterizer. This type of patchwork attracts craftswomen with greater elegance.

Technique "Watercolor"

The product in this technique is based on squares, the colors of which are combined from light to dark. The correct selection of colors and the placement of patches create the effect of watercolor painting.
For beginners, it is best to choose fabrics with a medium-sized print to get a beautiful pattern.

Technique "Well"

This technique is also based on a square, however, unlike the “Aquarium”, where the canvas consists of square shreds, here the canvas itself has a square shape, thanks to the stripes sewn together, which form a geometric figure. There are two ways to connect the strips into a square, which differ in the assembly schemes.

This technique is quite simple for beginners, as it has a simple stitching pattern.

And with step-by-step instructions and photos, patchwork in this technique should not cause any difficulties.

Jacob's Ladder Technique

This technique is performed from two geometric shapes: a triangle and a square. So to create a canvas in this technique, 9 square-shaped flaps are needed. 5 of them should consist of squares of 2 different colors (i.e. one square consists of 4 square parts), 4 - of 2 triangles, also of different colors.

All elements must be combined as follows: one patch with squares is located in the center, elements with triangles are sewn to each of the 4 sides of the central element, the remaining elements with squares must be placed in empty places (ultimately the patches sewn together should form a square).

Technique "Bargello"

To perform things in this technique, first of all, you need to cut fabrics of different colors into strips of the same length and width, which are then sewn together to form an integral canvas. Next, the canvas must be sewn into a “pipe”, which is then cut across the seams so that all strips have the same length and width and consist of different color elements.

The last step is to stitch the flaps into a canvas, while forming a pattern by "separating the ring" in a certain area, and each time is different. At first glance, patchwork in this technique may seem too complicated and confusing for beginners, but step-by-step photos and diagrams will dispel these concerns.

Technique "Pizza"

The name of the technique speaks for itself, because it is almost exactly the same as cooking a national Italian dish.

On the underlying fabric-base, you need to “scatter” (chaotically, but not forgetting about color compatibility) multi-colored elements of the fabric (as a rule, they are small in size), which then need to be covered with a transparent fabric. At the end, the “pizza” needs to be flashed so that it does not crumble.

Technique "Boro"

This technique is as follows: a fabric is taken for the base, and various pieces of matter are sewn to it, similar to patches on old clothes.
Basically, the fabrics should match the type of matter, but you can also show imagination. The most popular fabric for this technique is denim.

Technique "Lyapochikh"

This is a fairly simple technique in which patches of the same length are sewn in rows. Each of the elements is sewn in the middle, bending the edges to create the required volume.
In order for the product to keep its shape, the flaps are sewn very tightly. The splendor of the product depends on the length of the elements. The most popular thing in the performance of this technique is the rug.

Technique "Magic Triangles"

The essence of this technique is evident from the name itself: the canvases are sewn together from elements made in the form of triangles. Due to the versatility of this figure, the fabrics can be folded into a variety of patterns: from simple squares (when stitched with a long side) to a variety of colors.

Honeycomb technique

In this technique, products are created from hexagons, which are shaped like a honeycomb.
Stitching these elements by means of various combinations, you can create very original and beautiful things.

Quilting step by step for beginners

Not many people know how to make things using patchwork. For beginners, the technique, step-by-step photo, the schemes proposed in this article will become indispensable helpers in the new business.

Blanket

Before direct work, you should decide on a pattern, choose a fabric (the best solution is one fabric of different colors, as well as a single-color fabric for the reverse side) and a filler (usually a synthetic winterizer is used), make templates from cardboard or any other dense material (here we consider making a blanket from squares).

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. First of all, using templates, you need to cut the required number of square elements. Their number and size depend on the personal desires and preferences of the needlewoman.
  2. Then, applying the shreds to each other, you need to sew them together along the marking line from the wrong side. Having combined all the elements with each other, thereby creating the front side of the blanket, they should be carefully smoothed out with an iron.
  3. Plain fabric for the wrong side should be laid out on a straight surface, filler should be laid on top. The synthetic winterizer needs to be cut out with a margin on each side. In order for the filler not to roll in the corners, it must be quilted (from the center to the edges).
  4. The last step is to stitch together all three layers. If the layers slip during stitching, they can be pinned with pins or needles. In order for the blanket not to crumble along the edges over time, they can be stitched with braid.

Rug

To make the rug, you can use small scraps of an unlimited number of colors. However, you must definitely purchase a single-color fabric (2.5 times larger than the size of the planned carpet), transparent fabric and filler. One-color fabric should be laid out on a straight surface, the filler should be placed on top so that it occupies only half of the fabric.

The second half needs to cover the filler from above, sew and stitch. Next, on the resulting “cushion”, you need to randomly (but artistically) distribute scraps of different shapes, colors and sizes, which are then covered with a transparent piece of fabric. Now the rug needs to be stitched over the entire area so that it does not crumble.

tack

For the manufacture of potholders, it is best to use denim, as it is quite dense and heats up for a long time. You can perform it in any of the above techniques, but the most popular is the "Well" technique. To do this, you need to cut 10 strips of different lengths from denim of different colors. Then all the elements must be combined according to the appropriate scheme.

Quilting for beginners is used for sewing pot holders, blankets, pillowcases, etc. Step-by-step technique, photos, diagrams can be found on the site.

The final touch is the tack framing: any ribbon can be sewn along the edges, which needs to be turned into a loop at the edge. This version of the technique is intended for beginners, however, having mastered and studied a lot of step-by-step photos, instructions and diagrams, each needlewoman will be able to perform more complex work using patchwork.

Patchwork entered the life of the Russian people a very long time ago, but in recent years it has not only not lost its gloss, but is becoming increasingly popular. Moreover, today this sewing method is used not only by needlewomen for home design, but also by fashion designers for branded clothes.
