How to make Christmas figurines from salt dough. DIY Christmas crafts from salt dough

Most people associate this holiday with magic and fun. Decorating a Christmas tree in many apartments turns into a real ritual, in which all family members, including the smallest household members, take part. In order to make it more interesting for kids to prepare for the holiday, they can be offered to make New Year's toys from salt dough with their own hands. Such decorations will look original on the forest beauty and, most importantly, they will be completely unique. It is best to create toys with the whole family - this is a great way to have fun and usefully spend your free time, introducing the younger generation to creativity.

Salt dough preparation methods

To make Christmas decorations beautiful and durable, you need to properly make the dough for them. There are several options for its preparation. For the first method you will need:

  • flour - 1 cup;
  • salt - 1 cup;
  • vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon;
  • cold water - about 125 ml (its volume depends on the quality of the flour).

The dough is kneaded from the prepared components. It should be elastic and plastic. The resulting dough is covered with cellophane and placed in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours. After that, it can be used to make Christmas tree decorations.

There is another recipe by which you can make salt dough. New Year's toys from such material will differ in the increased durability. For him, you need to prepare:

  • flour - 1 cup;
  • salt - 2/3 cup;
  • PVA glue - about 15 ml;
  • cold water - 100 ml.

The dough, as in the first version, after mixing all the components, should turn out to be quite elastic and keep its shape perfectly. Water must be mixed into the mass in small portions, making sure that it does not turn out to be too rare. Salt dough prepared in this way hardens quickly, so it should be used immediately after kneading.

Necessary tools and decor elements

To make New Year's toys from salt dough with your own hands, in addition to the raw materials themselves, you will need to prepare a convenient wooden board on which the entire creative process will take place. You will also need a rolling pin, a plastic plasticine knife, curly molds, acrylic paints and several brushes of different thicknesses. For decorating crafts, you can use everything that is found in the house (for example, beads, beads, sequins or rain).

The process of making toys

Having prepared everything you need, you can start creating masterpieces from dough together with your child. The easiest way is to make flat figures using molds. It can be stars, hearts, Christmas trees, angels, the contours of various animals, etc. To make such toys, you need to roll out the dough on a board (it should be from 0.6 to 1.5 cm thick), and then cut out different figures from it using the prepared molds. The more crafts you get, the better. Since the toys will be hung on the Christmas tree, you need to remember to make holes in them (for this purpose, it is most convenient to use a toothpick or a match).

The finished figures are dried for one hour in an oven heated to 80 degrees, or on a hot battery. You can let the Christmas tree decorations dry on their own by spreading them out on a piece of parchment paper and leaving them on the table, but in this case they will harden for several days.

If there are no molds in the house, there is no need to despair. Funny New Year's figurines can be cut out of rolled out dough with an ordinary plasticine knife. In all other respects, the process of their manufacture is no different from the method described above.

Decoration of figurines

Salt dough Christmas toys should be painted after they are completely dry. They can be covered with one or more colors, draw funny faces and patterns on them. To keep beads, buttons, bows and other decorative elements firmly on the products, it is best to fix them on the surface with PVA glue. When the paint and glue on the toys dry, colored ribbons are threaded through them. Unusual and very beautiful DIY Christmas decorations are ready. They can be hung on the Christmas tree with the child.

Important nuances

There is nothing easier than hand-made New Year's toys from salt dough. The photos of Christmas tree decorations presented in this article are only a small part of what can be made from this plastic material. Modeling toys, like any other kind of creativity, requires imagination. Salt dough is a versatile material, and you can create figures for a Christmas tree of any complexity from it. However, it is worth remembering that they should not be too thin or excessively thick, because in the first case, the products will come out fragile and break quickly, and in the second, they will turn out to be heavy and will pull the spruce branches down.

No New Year is complete without a Christmas tree. You can make a salad with cucumbers instead of Olivier, replace champagne with cognac, but you simply have to put up a Christmas tree. It is she, the beauty, who will bring you a festive New Year's mood.

And since not everyone and not always manages to bring a fluffy Christmas tree home, we thought and thought and figured out how to get a Christmas tree without leaving home. You will need flour, salt, water, acrylic paints, cardboard, scissors, adhesive tape, a brush, a foam sponge for washing dishes, a couple of caps from felt-tip pens. First you need to decide on the size of the tree you need. The higher and wider you want to get a tree, the larger the diameter you have to draw a circle. You can use any plate, pot or even a bucket as a round template. Trace a circle, cut out of cardboard and cut into two identical parts.

Tape each cardboard semicircle on one side with tape.

This must be done in order to subsequently be convenient to remove the Christmas tree from the frame. Twist the semicircle into a cone, secure the edges with tape.

Knead the salty dough according to the recipe: 100 grams of flour, 100 grams of salt and 50 ml of water. Add water to the dry mixture little by little, kneading the dough thoroughly. Cover the entire cone with dough, trying to evenly distribute the layer of dough and not deform the frame.

For decor, use whatever you like. Since only a couple of felt-tip pens were at hand, it was decided to use caps. Holes were cut out with one, smaller diameter, and prints were made with the second cap, with a snowflake pattern.

Send the Christmas trees to dry in any warm place. Do not remove the product from the cardboard base until the dough is completely dry. Our Christmas trees dried for about 24 hours in a warm oven. Carefully remove the frame.

Paint the trees green.

After the first coat of paint has dried, use a sponge to lightly apply a translucent coat of white paint.

Now the salt dough Christmas tree is ready. We decided not to decorate the Christmas tree with anything else, but to use it as a New Year's candlestick. Small pill candles are ideal for miniature candle holders. However, be careful, the surface of the candlestick heats up quite quickly and strongly, so blow out the candles directly through the holes on the Christmas tree. Be careful and do not leave candles unattended!

kneading dough. Half a glass of fine salt, half a glass of flour, water - knead dough like dumplings add some sunflower oil (teaspoon).Add green paint and mix everything until smooth (if you mix not very thoroughly, then Christmas tree even more original).

Wet the cone with water, cover it completely with a layer test, and then gently, with a finger, tighten dough down. We do this in a circle, starting from the bottom of the cone to the very top.

I was a little late with the topic, but still I really wanted to post our work with children on the site. We did the model and the children's work is shown.

Theme: picture from salt dough “Under the mushroom” Prepared by: Martynova L. V. Recently, in my work with children, I have become a lot of attention.

At the beginning of my work, when the children were still small, I always kneaded the dough in the presence of the children. Gives you the opportunity to participate.

Dough modeling is a fun way to spend time with children. After all, at the same time, they not only sculpt, but also cook: they can experiment with the flour mixture in the process of measuring and mixing the ingredients, and then observe the metamorphoses that occur with the finished product when temperatures change during the drying process.

In addition, crafts made from salt dough are harmless to children, they do not contain allergens, and they can be safely tasted.

Figures made from homemade flour mixture are harder and better preserved than plasticine.

Basic dough recipe

Before making dough for modeling, you need to imagine what kind of products will be made, whether the dough needs to be dyed, how long modeling will take, which drying mode will be selected.

The basic dough recipe for crafts consists of one part of salt and two parts of wheat flour to which citric acid is added - 2 tsp. 1 cup salt and 1 tbsp. l. vegetable oil. The amount of water added during mixing should be equal to the amount of salt.

Dough preparation method

The test is made in the following order:

  • Mix flour with salt and citric acid and pour this mixture into a saucepan;
  • Place the saucepan over moderate heat and, stirring constantly, gradually add water until the dough begins to lag behind the pan and can be rolled into a ball.
  • Remove from heat and knead the dough with your hands.

Food coloring or gouache must be diluted in water, which is added before kneading the dough.

In the course of work, depending on the required consistency, the salt-flour mixture can be further diluted with water or oil, or flour can be added for hardness.

It is better to prepare the dough in as small portions as possible, right before sculpting, and store it only in a tightly closed container or cling film.

Drying salt dough crafts

In order for DIY salt dough crafts to retain their shape, do not break, and do not crack, you need to choose the right drying mode. You can simply leave the figurines to dry naturally in the air, you can put them in the oven.

There are two different methods for oven drying. The first is to preheat the oven, then turn it off and place the figurines in the heated space. You can also bake products at 100-degree mode, making sure that there is no burning.

A master class on making dough crafts involves, first of all, experimenting with the material: the composition of the dough and its drying mode, so failures in this process are inevitable.

Useful advice: Starting modeling with children, you need to set them up so that the first success, after many not quite aesthetic attempts, becomes a real miracle for them.

It is better to start with simple and uniform shapes, such as, for example, round beads of various colors and sizes. From them you can make garlands to decorate the room.

Then you can master more complex silhouettes - stars, hearts, and three-dimensional figures - New Year's snowflakes, Christmas trees, Easter eggs with patterns, egg coasters, chickens.

You can time the production of figurines for the holidays, or choose more neutral motifs for all occasions, making souvenirs and gifts in the form of stylized horseshoes, suns, stars, airplanes and funny faces.

During modeling, you can use special molds for modeling and baking, and other things, at the prompt of your imagination: garlic crush - to get thin ropes from dough, bottle caps - to cut out circles, plastic parts of toys - to get prints, almost everything What is at hand from a toothpick to wheels from toy cars can become a tool for sculpting dough.

Note!

It is easy to make holes in salt dough, both decorative and for hanging on threads. Holes on flat figures retain their shape when dry.

But when making more voluminous parts, such as spherical balls, in order to make a hole for the thread, you need to pierce the figure with a toothpick or other sharp tool made of wood or plastic and do not remove it until the product dries.

Helpful Hint: To glue the elements of the dough, it is enough just to wet the individual sections and attach them to each other.

From volumetric and flat figures, you can make garlands, key chains, medals and pendants. You can fashion chests and cups for storing jewelry, small treasures and pencils.

Volumetric figures of animals

Volumetric figures of animals are especially popular with children; they can be made in accordance with popular step-by-step instructions that are designed for plasticine and clay crafts.

Note!

You can sculpt from dough without dyes, then paint the finished figure and, after drying, varnish it.

You can also cut out various figures: having made their layout from cardboard, put it on a flat dough previously rolled out with a rolling pin and carefully cut along the edges. Then you can color the figurine, add the necessary texture - roughness, strokes, make eyes, nose or bead jewelry.

A wonderful handmade gift can be a photo frame or a unique candlestick.

Making panels that combine elements of mosaic, appliqué and modeling can captivate both children and adults. For the smallest, the simplest drawings are suitable: you must first draw a silhouette on parchment, then carefully fill it with dough along the lines.

More complex ideas can also be conceived and implemented using beads, cereal mosaics, dried flowers, etc.
