Cable for connecting the router to the TV. What is needed to connect a TV (Smart TV) to the Internet (using Wi-Fi, LAN)? We connect the TV to the laptop through special software

TV without Internet access today is perceived as something inferior, outdated, because the global network is a huge repository of multimedia content. However, TV is not a device that is customary to replace with a new one every year. What happens: the owners of "anachronisms", released at a time when no one thought about the Internet on TV, to remain deprived? Not at all. Almost any TV receiver can be connected to the World Wide Web with very few exceptions. And today we'll talk about how to do it.

Smart TV is a TV combined with a computer, and the presence of a network adapter for such a device is a matter of course. Happy owners of smart boxes can even choose how to connect the TV to the Internet - via cable or Wi-Fi. Both of these are quite simple.

Cable connection is possible in two ways: directly and through a router. The first option is used if the TV is the only device in the house with a network adapter or a separate Internet channel is allocated for the TV. The provider's cable is connected directly to the TV's network adapter.

The second option - connecting through a router, is much more common. In this case, the TV becomes one of the members of the local network, where the router is the center and source of the Internet. The cable connects the TV network adapter and the LAN port of the router. No special settings are needed for this, the TV is connected to the router in the same way as a computer.

If your Smart TV is equipped with a Wi-Fi adapter, it needs an access point or Wi-Fi router to connect to the global network.

Connecting and setting up the Internet on Samsung Smart TV

When connecting cable type:

  • Connect the TV network adapter and the LAN port of the router using a patch cord (a piece of cable with connectors). The screenshot below shows the back of the TV where the network port is located.
  • Using the remote control, let's go to the Smart TV settings, from there - to the "Network" and "Network settings" menus.

  • In the "Network Type" section, select "Cable".

  • Click the "Connect" button.

After a few seconds, the connection will be established and activated. The TV will receive all network parameters automatically.

When connected wirelessly:

  • Let's go to the network settings through the main menu of Smart TV.

  • Select the connection type "Wireless".

  • Select the access point running on your Wi-Fi router.

  • Enter the access point password and click Finish.

After a short time, the connection will be established.

On different models of Samsung smart TVs, the appearance and arrangement of menu items are different, but the principle of connecting to the Internet is the same everywhere.

Connecting and setting up the Internet on Smart TV LG

By wire:

  • Establish a physical connection between the router and the TV. The socket for the network cable on LG TVs, like Samsung, is located on the rear panel.
  • Use the remote control to enter the TV settings menu and go to the "Network" section.

  • Select "Wired Connection (Ethernet)".

  • After the connection is established, click "Finish" and exit the menu. Internet is set.

Wireless:

  • Enter the network settings through the main menu.
  • Select the connection type "Wireless".

  • In the list of options for connecting to a wireless network, click the "Configure from the list of access points" button.

  • Enter the password to connect to your hotspot. Confirm your input and wait a few seconds until the connection is established.

If your Smart TV model and router support WPS connection, you can click the second button in this menu - “Easy installation (WPS mode)”, and then press the same button on the router.

Different LG Smart TVs have slightly different menu interfaces. But the difference between them is not so significant that you can get confused. If you figure out how to connect a TV of one model to the Internet, you can easily do it on another.

Other brands of "smart" TVs - Sony, Toshiba, Philips, etc., connect to the global network in exactly the same way.

How to connect Smart TV to the Internet without a built-in network adapter

There are situations when setting up a wired TV connection to the Internet is not possible, for example, if there are no free ports on the router or the cable does not fit into the interior design. And the device is not equipped with a wireless network card. A removable Wi-Fi adapter that plugs into a USB port will help fix the situation.

Unfortunately, these removable adapters are not universal. They are produced by TV manufacturers themselves and only for devices of their brand, and each device supports a strictly limited range of TV models. With which devices a particular adapter is compatible, it should be indicated in the technical characteristics of the latter.

Externally, a removable Wi-Fi adapter resembles a large flash drive or USB modem, but there are models of a different type - in the form of a small box with a cable and an antenna (or without it). The former look more aesthetically pleasing, but the latter catch the wireless signal better, because thanks to the cable they can be moved from place to place and thereby find the best reception area.

Like other Wi-Fi devices, plug-in TV adapters belong to different generations of the IEEE 802.11 standard and operate in different frequency ranges.

Modern standards include IEEE 802.11n and IEEE 802.11ac. Only they support a data transfer rate sufficient to view high-definition video content, and operate in two frequency bands at once - 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. This means that they are compatible with any Wi-Fi routers, since the majority of the latter broadcast either in one or the other range (less often in both). And for the devices to work together, you need to tune to one common frequency.

In addition, removable Wi-Fi adapters for TV differ in the following parameters:

  • signal reception radius. It is important that this value is not less than the distance to the access point.
  • transmitter power. It is 30-50-70-100 mW. The lower the power of the device, the higher it should be at the access point, especially if the latter is located at a considerable distance from the TV.
  • Support for encryption technologies in Wi-Fi networks. For compatibility with modern devices, the adapter must support WPA and WPA 2 standards, with old ones (generations of the 90s and early 2000s) - WEP.

Connecting to the World Wide Web conventional TV

Regular TVs (non-Smart) do not have network adapters, so simply taking and connecting such a device to the Internet will not work. But it's very easy to get around this limitation. It is enough to connect a special set-top box to the TV - Android TV Box, Apple TV or their equivalent. To the delight of the owners of old TV sets, such set-top boxes are now sold at affordable prices and their choice is very large.

A set-top box (media player) is a compact device that looks like a large flash drive or a plastic box that will not only equip your TV with network interfaces, but also give it other “smart” functions. This is, in fact, a miniature computer with its own processor, memory, operating system and other attributes, the monitor of which is a TV, and the input device is a remote control. By the way, special keyboards and similar mice are produced for set-top boxes, and many of them are compatible with ordinary ones.

TV set-top boxes are distinguished by technical parameters. They, like computers and smartphones, are more and less productive. They have different processors, different amounts of RAM and permanent memory, different interfaces. Such devices can connect to the Internet both by wire and over the air.

Set-top boxes, unlike removable Wi-Fi receivers, are universal, that is, they are compatible with various brands and models of TVs. Only the same connection interface is important for both devices. Usually this is HDMI, less often USB, even less often other types.

Setting up the Internet on a TV with a media player is unlikely to cause difficulties for those who have connected a smartphone or computer to the network at least once. After all, they work on the same operating systems as mobile gadgets from a PC: Andriod, iOS, Windows.

How to connect the set-top box to the TV

  • Turn off the power of both devices (if the set-top box does not have its own power adapter, then only TV). For reliability, it is better to pull the plugs out of the sockets. The HDMI interface, although it supports hot plugging, in fact often burns out, especially if you connect devices, each of which has its own power source.
  • Plug the media player or its cable into the HDMI or USB socket of the TV.
  • Turn on devices.
  • Using the remote control supplied with the set-top box, go to the menu, and from there - to the network settings.

TV connection to the Internet through an electrical outlet

The technology for transmitting data over electrical wires - PLC (PowerLine Communication), has existed for a long time, but is not yet very popular. However, soon, one should expect, its finest hour will come, because with the introduction of the Internet of things and smart home systems, traditional wired communication will be difficult, and the radio air will be oversaturated with information flows. Then the electrical network as a transmission medium will be very useful.

PLC is not an independent technology for connecting to the Internet, it transmits data according to the principle of Ethernet cable communication (if you do not take into account the features of transmission over power lines), but it is devoid of its main drawback - the need to lay and mask wires. Places for connecting devices to the network are ordinary electrical outlets, more precisely, special adapters installed in them.

PLC adapters, such as in the picture, are supplied to the Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian markets by TP-Link, ZyXEL, D-Link and some others. They cost around 1000-5000 rubles (the price depends on the transmission speed to the Ethernet and PowerLine channels, the number of devices in the kit, LAN ports and other options).

For comfortable viewing of high-resolution video, it is optimal to buy a PLC with a transfer rate of 100 Mbit / s.

Connecting such devices is not difficult: the LAN ports of one PLC adapter module and the TV are connected with a patch cord, then the adapter is plugged into a power outlet. The second module is connected to the LAN connector of the router and an outlet near it. After that, set up wired Internet on TV in the usual way.

Arranging their own home, each person strives for maximum comfort. Television has always created a great atmosphere in our homes. But lately, most people are beginning to move away from watching hackneyed programs. After all, they give so much unnecessary information that clogs our brain.

Preference is given to the Internet, which has the freedom to choose information for development, entertainment, etc. But what if you combine these two devices and enjoy the Internet on TV? A similar idea has already been implemented by many thanks to technological progress. This will give you the opportunity to watch your favorite movies and programs without extra flash drives, disks and other external media. How can you connect the Internet to your TV?

Connection via Ethernet port.

Some new generation TVs are made with an Ethernet port (like in a computer / laptop). In order to connect the Internet in this case, you only need to insert an Ethernet cable into the LAN input. Often, this connection is established automatically, but if this does not happen, then you can configure it manually by following simple steps:

1. Enter the main menu of the TV and find the tab "Network" .
2. Select an item "Network configuration" , connection type "Cable" .
3. Find a tab "IP Address Setting" .
4. Select manual network setup.
5. Enter the basic parameters.
6. Wait for the automatic connection check.

Wi-Fi technology has now spread to many devices. She did not bypass the TVs either. In order to establish a Wi-Fi connection, you will need a configured router with an installed access point and an adapter, which is often already built-in. Otherwise, you can purchase an external USB adapter at any digital hardware store. The connection is set up in the TV menu.

Internet using PC/laptop and other devices

You can also connect your TV to the Internet by simply displaying the image on the monitor. This method has been successfully used due to its simplicity and convenience. It is enough to use an HDMI cable that connects to the video card of the computer and the TV monitor.

In addition to HDMI, there are connections such as DVI, VGA or S-Video. But there is a downside to this connection. If, for example, you have a Samsung TV, and you want to connect to the SMART TV service, then it will not work for you.

Internet TV set-top box (receiver)

This device is designed to view Internet video on your TV. The picture quality can reach HDTV. An example is the prefix VINTERA, which has very good functionality. In addition to the Internet, such devices can replace the DVD player, supporting a lot of video formats.

They also contain a standard list of IPTV channels. The price of the receiver is usually around $200, which makes it more affordable. Compatible with almost all TVs.

Home Plug AV

Using this option, you will need to purchase two Home Plug AV adapters. For example, it can be a TP-Link PA2010 model or others like it. It is better to buy them in a set, so it will be cheaper. The meaning of the technology lies in the fact that you can make a network connection using an office or home electrical network.

You connect one near the Wi-Fi router and connect it with a network cable to the router, and the second near the TV and connect it with a network cable to the TV. Set up a network between Home Plug AV adapters and you're done.

Android TV BOX

Multimedia set-top boxes TV BOX allow you to access the Internet thanks to the built-in Wi-Fi technology. If it is not present, then it is possible to connect a 3G modem. The advantage is that in terms of its cost it is not very expensive, but it gives you the opportunity to get an almost full-fledged SMART TV.

Connects via regular video and audio outputs (tulips) or HDMI cable. It operates on the Android operating system, i.e. in front of you will be the same tablet, but only on the TV screen. With it, you can listen to your favorite songs, watch videos and images in FULL HD quality, play games. Some models come with a built-in webcam. You can easily communicate with your loved ones via Skype directly from your TV!

Cable connection can be useful in two cases: when your TV does not have a built-in (or external) Wi-Fi module, and when you do not have a Wi-Fi router (or just can't connect to a wireless network).

We will consider two connection methods:

  • Connect directly using a LAN cable that you most likely have at home (cable that the provider laid).
  • And connecting through a router.

In both cases, there is nothing difficult.

I will show on the example of the LG 32LN575U TV.

Connecting through a router

For example, you have a router, but your TV does not have Wi-Fi. We can simply lay a network cable from the router to the TV.

Our router must be connected to the Internet and configured.

Also, we need a network cable. A small cable comes with a router, or with a TV. But, if you need a longer cable, then you can make it yourself, as it is written here, or go to some computer store and ask to crimp the cable to the desired length.

We connect one end of the cable to the router, to the yellow connector (I apologize for the quality of the photo).

On the TV, we connect the second end of the cable to the network connector (RJ-45). Better to have the TV on.

It should turn out something like this:

If everything is fine, then immediately after connecting the cable, a window should appear on the TV with a message stating that connected to a wired network(it disappears quickly).

Everything, the Internet on the TV is already working! You can enjoy all the features of Smart TV.

Direct connection, network cable from the provider

Here, almost everything is the same as in the previous method. If your provider uses connection technology “Dynamic IP” (you can check with support), then just connect the cable to the TV and everything works.

But if technology PPPoE, but here it is a bit more complicated. For example, on my LG 32LN575U there is no way to set up such a connection. There is already only one option, install a router and raise the connection on it. And already with a cable, or via Wi-Fi, connect the TV.

But, as far as I know, for example, some Samsung TVs can raise a PPPoE connection. See the specifications, check with the manufacturer.

Set a static IP and DNS on the TV

You may need to set a static IP and DNS when connecting via LAN (the provider can also use this technology), It can be done. Showing how 🙂

Go to Smart TV and select the network icon (can also be done through settings).

Click the button Set up a connection.

Selecting a button Manual setting.

The cable must already be connected!

Selecting a button “Wired”.

The TV will build a network map and display the result of connecting to the Internet. Like this (Your card may differ, this is normal):

Click Ready. Everything, a wired network with a static IP is configured.

The provider binds to the MAC address. Where to watch MAC on TV?

If your provider binds by MAC address, and the Internet is already tied to a computer, for example, then you most likely won’t be able to connect it to a TV. It is necessary that the provider change the binding to the MAC address of the TV.

In this case, we need to find out the MAC address of our TV. You can usually do this in the settings.

In LG 32LN575U on the tab SupportInf. about the product/service.

That's all. If you have any questions, then ask them in the comments! Good luck!

We connect the TV to the Internet via a network cable (LAN) updated: February 7, 2018 by: admin

Allows you to comfortably view videos and photos, play computer games or just surf the Internet. Therefore, many users connect a laptop to a TV. This can be done with a dedicated HDMI cable. Then the screen of the TV device will become like a second monitor to project the image from the laptop. But it's much easier to connect a laptop to a TV via wifi. There will be no need to place equipment as close to each other as possible or connect and hide wires. So today we will tell you about how to connect a laptop to a TV via wifi in different ways.

Most modern TV devices are equipped with a feature that allows you to access interactive content. Due to which you can easily display on the TV screen a wide variety of information from the Internet - movies, videos, music, games, blogs, etc. This technology is called smart.

The most common and advanced platforms are Samsung Smart TV and LG Smart TV. Other manufacturers are also actively implementing this technology - Sony, Philips, Panasonic, Thomson, etc.

So we will connect such a TV with Smart TV to a laptop. This is done as follows:

If you have configured everything correctly, then you can launch movies in two clicks. Just "highlight" any video file on the laptop, click on it with the auxiliary mouse button and select the "Play to ..." item. In the list that opens, you just need to click on your TV model. For example, Sony Bravia KDL-42W817B. After that, the broadcast on the big screen will start automatically.

For reference! Videos in MKV format will most likely not be played with this connection. Therefore, choose files with the AVI extension.

Connect TV to laptop using WiDi

First of all, this method is good because it does not require any "sharing" of folders and sharing settings. WiDi technology uses the Wi-Fi standard and simply duplicates the picture from the laptop to the screen of the TV device. True, there are a couple of nuances. You can organize the connection in this way only if the laptop:

  • Assembled on the basis of the third generation Intel processor;
  • Equipped with Intel Wi-Fi module;
  • Integrated Intel graphics;
  • OS - Windows 7, 8, 10.

In some cases, you may also need to install the Intel Wireless Display software. As for the TV itself, it must support Miracast (WiDI) technology. Most modern models that have been produced since 2012-2013 have this feature by default.

The WiDi connection procedure itself includes several steps:

It also happens that you did everything as described above, but the TV does not see the laptop. Then open the Charms-panel on the laptop, click the "Devices" tab. Then select "Projector" and add your wireless screen. We also update Wi-Fi drivers.

We connect the TV to the laptop through special software

You can also connect two devices via wifi to display an image using various programs. Today, there is a lot of all kinds of software for playing content on a TV without using wires. Although the most popular are:

  • Samsung Share (has a simplified interface, but is mostly compatible only with Samsung devices);
  • share manager.

And of all these programs, the home media server is the most stable application in operation. In addition, it is suitable for almost all TV models from different manufacturers. Using the example of a home media server, we will tell you how to display an image from a laptop on a TV:

  1. We download the distribution kit for free from the official website of the developer - http://www.homemediaserver.ru
  2. Install the program on the laptop.
  3. Let's launch it. A table will appear listing the various devices. In this list, you need to select the one to which the content will be transmitted. That is, we look for and click on your TV model. Click the "Next" button.
  4. The program will offer to share certain folders. By default, these are "Video", "Music", "Pictures". However, you can manually specify other folders where you store your movies or photos so that you can then watch them on the TV screen. Just click on the right button "Add" with a big green plus.
  5. Then we confirm the scanning procedure. Click "OK" and "Finish".

Now the various content that you have specified in the home media server program will be displayed on the big screen of the TV.

Other similar applications work on the same principle. So there shouldn't be any difficulty in using them. So you learned how to connect a laptop to a TV via a wireless wifi network using special software.

What to do if there is no wifi module on the TV?

Wireless connection with a laptop via Wi-Fi is impossible if there is no special module. For example, it is not available on older TV devices that were released more than 5 years ago. Naturally, without a cable, a laptop cannot be connected to such a TV. How to be? You will have to use additional devices.

For example, an adapter can help expand the capabilities of a TV. Usually it is inserted into the HDMI port. What similar gadgets can we recommend? This is:

  • Google Chromecast;
  • Android Mini PC
  • Compute Stick;
  • Miracast adapter.

All of the adapters listed above will allow you to establish a wireless connection and transfer the image from your laptop to your TV.

I hesitated for a long time and could not understand whether it was necessary to write about how to connect Samsung Smart TV to the Internet via Wi-Fi, and whether such material would be useful to the reader. Indeed, in fact, there is nothing complicated in this, but I did not want to waste my time rationally, without benefit and return. By chance, I came across a similar question on one of the FAQ (question-answer) web services, where one of the participants, about two weeks ago, asked how to connect Smart TV to the Internet, but he never received an answer . This was a turning point, I realized that people are looking for the answer to this question and decided to write this post.

To begin with, you can connect the TV to the Internet through a Wi-Fi router or via a direct connection. That is, just plug the cable from the Internet provider into the Ethernet port of the TV. However, a direct connection is far from suitable for all types of providers, and in my opinion it is much more convenient with a router, because this way you can manage your home network.

In turn, from a Wi-Fi router, you can connect the TV to the Internet both via a LAN cable (twisted pair) and via a wireless Wi-Fi network. In this article, we will consider connecting Samsung Smart TV via a Wi-Fi wireless network, and I already mentioned that in one of my publications.

If you will connect Smart TV to the Internet using a LAN cable, then I recommend purchasing a UTP-5e patch cord or crimping the LAN cable yourself. If you don’t have crimpers on your farm (pliers for crimping an RJ-45 connector and a twisted pair), then the crimping scheme and the method for creating a patch cord without a special tool are you.

What you need to know before connecting TV to Wi-Fi.

If you do not know the feature of Wi-Fi technology, then I recommend. Looking ahead, I want to say that if the wireless network is observed, then (operation manual) and switch to a less busy channel. By the way, if your TV does not have a built-in Wi-Fi adapter, then you can buy an external wireless adapter and create a connection through it. Please note that the Wi-Fi USB adapter must be compatible with your TV model.

Connecting via Wi-Fi is very convenient because it eliminates wires under your feet, but when choosing this type of connection, you may experience discomfort when playing online video on a SMART TV in the form of freezes and interruptions. But for the most part, it depends not only on the wireless technology, but also on the speed of the Internet connection. Of course, other things being equal, the speed and stability of the signal will be better over twisted pair. But technology does not stand still and wireless standards are constantly gaining momentum. However, in this case, digital devices will also have to be changed to those that support these standards.

As I said, comfortable viewing of online video without brakes depends on a number of conditions. For example, on the speed of your tariff plan, the speed of the router in the radio channel, the quality of the wireless signal, and so on. In general, the quality of data transmission in Wi-Fi technology still depends on the power of the antenna, the influence of interference and the presence of obstacles. So, if you want a stable connection in the Wi-Fi radio channel and comfortably watch online video, then all this must be taken into account.

Connecting the TV to the Internet via Wi-Fi.

It is assumed that you already have a home network, and for those who do not know or there are publications on the blog. First of all, check the Internet connection settings on your Smart TV. To do this, log in "Menu""Network""Network Status" and click on the button "IP settings". IP and DNS settings should be in "Receive automatically". You should also make sure that Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is enabled on your router.

Important!!! A TV that is connected to the router with a cable will start setting up the connection via cable, if the cable is not connected, SMART TV will automatically start setting up via a wireless Wi-Fi connection.

If the Wi-Fi network is configured, then feel free to start setting up an Internet connection on the TV. As an example, I will show you how to set up on a Samsung UE40ES 6570WW TV (about Samsung 2012 and 2013 model markings). I think that according to this principle, you can set up an Internet connection on any other Samsung model. So, more to the point.

Click the button "Menu" on the remote control and in the navigation window that appears, select the section "Network". Select an item from the list "Network settings".

The first step is to set up the wireless network using the internal LAN adapter. Before pressing the button "Start" To search for a Wi-Fi router, make sure the router is turned on, configured and has Internet access.

Searching and compiling a list of routers in the Wi-Fi network.

The second step will display the router search results. The resulting list may include neighboring Wi-Fi networks. You need to select your router and press the button "Further".

The third step is to enter the security key. Enter the key that you set to secure your wireless network during router setup. The password will be identical to the one set on your router and should not be less than eight characters.

If everything is done correctly and the Wi-Fi network is stable, then a wireless connection will be established.

Now you can call the built-in web browser because Internet access for Smart TV is open. But if a wireless connection with a Wi-Fi router could not be established and the access password was entered correctly, then try changing the settings.

The TV does not connect to the Wi-Fi router.

With a high degree of probability, we can assume that your home network is having problems with the DHCP protocol and you are receiving a message stating that the wireless network connection could not be established.

In the admin panel of your Wi-Fi router, disable the DHCP server function and go to "IP Settings" on the TV. Here you need to change the settings from "Receive automatically" to "Enter manually". Now you need to manually enter the settings for the network connection in accordance with the parameters of your router.

For example, if the gateway address of the router 192.168.1.1 , then in the network connection settings you need to specify the following values:

IP address: 192.168.1.103 (can be 192.168.1.104; 192.168.1.105 and so on)
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS server: 8.8.8.8 (or 192.168.1.1)

In the DNS server, you can register a public server from Google 8.8.8.8; 8.8.4.4 or gateway settings 192.168.1.1. Now try to connect to the Internet again. After that, the connection should be established.

Very often, the TV manually finds a Wi-Fi router and goes online. Now you need to fix DHCP problems so that all devices (laptop, tablet) automatically get Internet access. For example, you can reserve an IP address for each device in your router by MAC address. In this way, you can avoid conflicts in the operation of DHCP and all devices will receive the same IP address every time they connect.

If the problem with connecting the TV to the wireless network of the Wi-Fi router could not be solved or there are some problems in operation, then try the methods described in practice .

By the way, if you are interested, then an informative article on this topic is on our website. That's all.
